By Thomas O’Connor, MD.
Earlier this month, I sent a letter to my congressional representative, Senator, Chris Murphy, asking for his help with what I believe is a medical crisis, the under treatment of former and current anabolic steroid users. I am not the first to identify this crisis; almost a decade ago, researchers at Harvard University published their warning about this “emerging” healthcare crisis. (Kanayama, G et al, 2009) I am fully aware of the fact that AAS are illegal. However, as a physician, that is not within my purview; my concern is the health of patients who are suffering from AAS related conditions.
The objective of my letter to the senator was to bring greater attention to my mission. Please see below my correspondence with Senator Murphy.
