British Dragon founder Edwin Richard Crawley died in the early morning of July 1 from complications with pneumonia.

The steroid maker had been recently released from a federal prison after he plead guilty to charges that he illegally imported steroids into the United States. Judge Richard S. Martinez sentenced the ailing Crawley to “credit for time served” and released him from prison, although he faced a maximum sentence of 20 years and a $1 million fine.
Crawley had been extradited to the United States after being captured by the DEA in Thailand. Crawley fought extradition and stayed jailed in a Thai prison for three years but lost and was returned to the United States on March 7, 2011. On March 18, he plead guilty and was sentenced for time served because of his deteriorating health.
Crawley’s British Dragon, which is not associated with the current British Dragon, was one of the most successful anabolic steroid companies in the world.
